Tim Sherwood shares whether he thinks Manchester City or Arsenal will win the title this season

Tim Sherwood has named who he believes will win the Premier League title this season after Arsenal took top spot ahead of Manchester City at the weekend.

Sherwood was speaking on The Kelly and Wrighty Show (broadcast on 27/11) as he predicted one of the most competitive title races we have seen for a long time.

Arsenal have returned to where they spent the majority of last season. Mikel Arteta’s men beat Brentford on Saturday, with Kai Havertz scoring the only goal late on at the Gtech Community Stadium.

With Manchester City drawing with Liverpool earlier in the day, the Gunners had the chance to overtake Pep Guardiola’s men. Meanwhile, Aston Villa are within touching distance of top spot themselves after they beat Tottenham on Sunday.

It was also not too long ago that Spurs were top. So it is no surprise that Tim Sherwood is expecting a very open race.

However, he suggested that he is still expecting Manchester City to come out on top this season.

“I think it’s one of the best, more competitive leagues we’ve had for a long time. I think they still will win the league,” he told The Kelly and Wrighty Show.

“I honestly believe that. Like Benty, I think they’ll go on a 10, 15 game unbeaten run. They change gear when they come into March. March, April, they just stick the games together and it’s sickening for everyone else looking in.”

All four sides look set to improve further

It is frightening to think that neither Manchester City or Arsenal have found their best form just yet. The Gunners are the lowest goalscorers in the top-four. But they also have the best defensive record in the division.

City meanwhile, are yet to find their top gear – as Sherwood suggests. They also have players such as Kevin De Bruyne to return at some stage.

Liverpool have been really impressive given some of the struggles they have had in the last couple of years. But there is definitely a lot more to come from them, too.

It feels a little too soon to imagine Villa being main players in the title race. But that may perhaps be because of how quickly they have risen up the table.

It is very hard to call. But there is no question that many will be agreeing with Sherwood’s assessment that City are in the driving seat.
