David Seaman says what Mikel Arteta said after Arsenal beat Brentford was ‘strange’

David Seaman has found what Mikel Arteta did after Arsenal beat Brentford on Saturday strange following the performance of Aaron Ramsdale in the game.

Seaman was speaking on his Seaman Says podcast after the England international made a rare league start to help the Gunners earn the three points which took Mikel Arteta‘s side back to the top of the table.

Aaron Ramsdale did start with David Raya ineligible. Ultimately, he did manage to keep a clean sheet. However, it proved to be an eventful evening for the 25-year-old.

Ramsdale was nearly punished for trying to play out from the back in the first-half. And in truth, he did not look entirely comfortable when the Bees were pressing.

Unsurprisingly, Arteta was asked about Ramsdale after the win. Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live, Arteta immediately replied by praising the entire team. And he did the same again when he was asked about the goalkeeper for a second time.

Seaman believes that Arteta was in a difficult position. However, he was not entirely convinced by how the Arsenal boss responded to questions about Ramsdale.

“I found them a bit strange if I’m honest,” he told Seaman Says when asked about the comments. “But I can understand where he was coming from, because when he was asked the question about Aaron, he just totally avoided it, didn’t he. He did it twice.

“I can understand it a little bit because if he answers or replies to it, then the next question is oh is he going to be playing the next game? So the situation has built up where if he answers one question on Aaron, there’s a load more coming.

“As soon as he was asked the questions, and the way he just batted it off without even a blink and went: ‘oh, the team played really well’, it was like woah. It was a bit awkward,” he went on to add.

Englishman looked rusty on Arsenal return

Arteta did offer a more detailed answer about Ramsdale in his press conference (via Football London). But if the Arsenal boss was hoping to stop people talking about Ramsdale and Raya, he has failed miserably.

It baffled many when Arteta decided to replace Ramsdale. And Raya has hardly pulled up many trees since making his move in the summer.

Ramsdale looked like a goalkeeper who had not played for some time on Saturday. And that is a real shame when you consider how important he had been in the previous couple of years.
