Crystal Palace are now trying to sign striker Arsenal sold for £2m

Chuba Akpom could be back playing for a London club over five years after Arsenal sold him.

That is according to TEAMtalk, which has claimed interest from Crystal Palace in former Arsenal striker Akpom.

So, what has been reported about Chuba Akpom? Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, according to TEAMtalk, Crystal Palace are interested in signing Chuba Akpom from Ajax in the January transfer window.

The report has claimed that Palace and Fulham have already “enquired about the availability of Ajax striker”.

Everton, Burnley, Luton Town and Sheffield United are keen on the 28-year-old former Arsenal striker as well.

Interestingly, Everton were linked with Akpom in the summer of 2023 as well. Leeds United also eyed a move for the striker.

TEAMtalk has added that Akpom is open to a switch to the Premier League despite joining Ajax from Middlesbrough only in the summer of 2023.

Ajax are ready to offload the striker on a loan deal in the January transfer window.

Chuba Akpom could have a point to prove to Arsenal

A move to Crystal Palace could appeal to Chuba Akpom. The Eagles are an established club in the Premier League and are based in London.

Perhaps the striker will feel that he has a point to prove to Arsenal. The 28-year-old came through the Gunners’ youth academy, but he could not establish himself in the first team.

Akpom had loan spells at Brentford, Nottingham Forest and Brighton and Hove Albion among other clubs during his time at Arsenal.

Arsenal sold the striker to PAOK in 2018 for £2 million (Goal). Akpom was able to make only four appearances in the Premier League.

The striker was brilliant during his time at Middlesbrough. The 28-year-old scored 29 goals in all competitions for Boro last season and moved to Ajax for an initial transfer fee of £10.5 million in the summer of 2023.

Akpom has made two starts and seven substitute appearances in the Eredivisie this season. The striker has scored five goals in those games.
