‘That’s incredible’…Tim Sherwood insists Mikel Arteta doesn’t actually know where to play Arsenal star

Tim Sherwood has shared what he finds completely incredible about Kai Havertz after the forward scored for Arsenal in their win over Brentford.

Sherwood was speaking on The Kelly and Wrighty Show (broadcast on 27/11) with the German bagging his first Premier League goal from open play for the Gunners to send Mikel Arteta’s side top of the table.

It has obviously been a difficult start to life at Arsenal for Kai Havertz. The 24-year-old was a surprise target for the Gunners after an underwhelming time at Chelsea.

Tim Sherwood baffled Mikel Arteta doesn’t know Kai Havertz’s best position

Arsenal made Havertz their highest-paid player when he came in. Unfortunately, Havertz has hardly hit the ground running and struggled to make an impact.

But he proved to be their hero on Saturday. Havertz got on the end of an amazing cross from Bukayo Saka to score the winner at Brentford.

Many Arsenal fans will be hoping that it proves to be a turning point for him at the Emirates. However, Tim Sherwood is less convinced, noting that it is remarkable that Mikel Arteta does not know how to get the best out of the summer signing.

“Mikel was taking him over there to introduce him to the Arsenal fans, wasn’t he. It’s about time. There’s a lot of money and they ain’t seen nothing, nor have I. The boy doesn’t even know where his best position is. And Mikel certainly doesn’t know his best position,” he told The Kelly and Wrighty Show.

“He says he doesn’t know what his best position is. That’s incredible. If you’ve got a player saying that himself, I don’t know what my best position is, what chance have you got if you’re Mikel?”

Promising signs

Havertz has arguably played his best football yet in an Arsenal shirt when coming off the bench. He really struggled to justify his place in the side when he was starting regularly at the beginning of the season.

Demoting him to the bench took some of the pressure off of his shoulders. And he has been able to make more of an impact.

Havertz provided the assist for the winner against Manchester City. And he has now scored a goal which gave Arsenal a really important three points at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Arsenal have so much depth all over the pitch. So it is hard to see where Havertz gets in the team right now.

But you would like to think that Arteta will have a plan for him.
