‘I like him’… International manager says Tottenham have a 22-year-old player who terrifies defenders

Wales manager Rob Page has heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur forward Brennan Johnson.

The 22-year-old is a fantastic talent. He was brilliant for Nottingham Forest last season, and he has already shown flashes of his brilliance at Tottenham this term. Page is a big fan of Johnson’s pace and versatility.

Wales manager praises Tottenham star Brennan Johnson

Tottenham signed Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest in a £47.5 million deal on transfer deadline day (Sky Sports).

The Welshman is a hugely versatile player. He can play anywhere across the front three, and that’s probably the biggest reason why Ange Postecoglou was so keen to sign him.

Johnson has played five times for Tottenham so far and he hasn’t been bad by any means. Yes, he’s yet to score, but that will come because of the system he plays in. He is apparently shining in training recently as well, which is a big positive.

Speaking about Johnson, his international boss Rob Page has claimed that the 22-year-old’s pace terrifies defenders, which is why he prefers to play him as a striker.

He told BBC Sport: “Brennan is proving at club level that he can play a multitude of positions It’s a good problem for a manager to have. He adds quality.

“He’s a different type of player to Kieffer [Moore] as a nine. He’s finding a position that suits him. We’ve got Kieffer as a nine, but Brennan can play that as well.

“I like him as a nine purely because of his pace. There is not a defender out there who’s going to want to play against him and DJ [Daniel James] because pace frightens defenders.

“He plays left of a three sometimes and again that suits us with of the way we play now. He can play any one of the front three positions easily and he’s showing it at Tottenham on the left.

“So, I’m not going to pigeonhole him as a number nine. I’m going to spread my bets and say [he can play] any of the front three positions.”

Johnson can be a star for Tottenham

Brennan Johnson’s last three appearances for Tottenham have all come as a substitute, but his role could change now.

It was confirmed yesterday that Richarlison has undergone surgery and will be out of action for a while.

That opens the door for the 22-year-old Welshman to get in the side as a regular starter, and he definitely has the potential to have a positive impact in Spurs’ attack.

If Johnson gets a good run of games from the start, he could become a star for Tottenham.
