TalkSPORT pundit thinks ‘sensational’ Tottenham player has absolutely excelled so far this season

Tony Cascarino has named James Maddison as his Premier League player of the season so far, suggesting that he has been sensational for Tottenham Hotspur since his move.

Cascarino was speaking on talkSPORT (broadcast on 19/11; 8:39) as he picked the England international ahead of the likes of Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Tottenham signing Maddison in the summer proved to be a game-changer for the club. It is easy to forget now how much disarray Spurs appeared to be in towards the end of last season.

But the appointment of Ange Postecoglou and the signing of James Maddison has helped Tottenham find another level.

The 26-year-old has scored three goals and contributed five assists in the Premier League. And with that, Tony Cascarino has named the Spurs attacking midfielder as his player of the season so far.

“James Maddison,” he told talkSPORT. “Getting Tottenham to the top of the league, and okay, they’re not there now, but he was sensational with his assists and goals that enabled Spurs to not miss one of the great centre forwards in world football, Harry Kane. I think Maddison’s performances have excelled.”

Spurs may be about to find out just how important 26-year-old really is

Of course, Tottenham were dealt a massive blow before the international break. Postecoglou confirmed that Maddison is unlikely to play again before the turn of the year due to injury.

That came after he went off in that unbelievable game between Spurs and Chelsea earlier this month.

Tottenham have now suffered two defeats on the bounce. And it is surely fair to say that they simply do not have the player who can naturally replace Maddison.

So it may only be now that we find out just how important he is to the new Tottenham team. Of course, the goals and assists speak for themselves. And it must be said that Maddison just looks to be made for Spurs.

But Tottenham fans would be forgiven for counting down the days until he is back available to Postecoglou.
