‘Rapid’ £25m defender to be allowed to leave in January after Tottenham apparently show interest

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Everton defender Ben Godfrey in recent weeks.

In November, 90Min reported that Spurs were one of several Premier League teams checking in on the 25-year-old.

Tottenham, as well as Newcastle, are said to be long-term admirers of the twice-capped England defender.

Now, football.london has published an update which bodes well for Spurs in their pursuit of Godfrey.

The report claims that the Everton man is expected to be allowed to leave this winter after being edged out of the team under Sean Dyche.

The likes of James Tarkowski, Michael Keane and Jarrad Branthwaite are ahead of the reported Tottenham target at centre-back.

Godfrey is a good shout for Spurs, particularly considering how tricky it can be getting top players in the January transfer window.

At 25 years old, he’s still not reached his prime as a defender yet, but he has great talent and considerable experience at the highest level.

In addition, Godfrey has often been described as ‘rapid’ by his teammates, who declared him the fastest player at Everton a few years ago.

This is good considering Micky van de Ven – another very fast defender – is currently on the sidelines. Godfrey could be a good replacement.

Although the £25million Everton man has had a difficult year or so, Ange Postecoglou may be the perfect manager to revitalise his game.

The Spurs boss boasts amazing man-management skills, and has got the likes of Yves Bissouma out of his previous rut and back into top form.

Aside from Godfrey’s quality and experience, a move to Spurs also seems plausible. Both the player and his club seem willing to talk with suitors over his services.
