‘Would have been lovely’…Postecoglou says he’s gutted at not been able to pair up two Spurs players just yet

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is preparing his team for another tough game this weekend against table-topping Manchester City.

Without a win in three, Postecoglou knows his Tottenham side are up against it. His side are injury-ravaged and know that it will take a huge effort to get points.

One of the players to be ruled out for Spurs is midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur. The Uruguayan has only just returned from serious injury but a new problem courtesy of a rash Matty Cash tackle has left him out again.

Of course, Bentancur being out has meant no sign of a partnership with Yves Bissouma. And speaking to the press today, Postecoglou admits he’d have loved to see the duo.

Postecoglou wants to see Bissouma and Bentancur partnership

Commenting on the duo’s potential in the middle of the park, Postecoglou admitted he’d been thinking of using the pair.

“It would have been lovely to see Biss and Rodrigo in there together. I had all these plans. That’s just me thinking out loud,” Postecoglou laughed.

Bissouma missed the most recent game through suspension and with Bentancur now out until January, it means Spurs fans won’t get to see it any time soon.

Dreamland for Tottenham fans

There’s no doubting that Spurs fans were getting excited about this partnership. Bissouma had started the season so well and the idea of bringing Bentancur into the mix as well felt massive.

It’s such a shame that Bentancur has now been ruled out again. With those two in the middle, you feel there’d have been a real top-class quality about the Spurs midfield.

It’s not to be, though, and it could be even longer than January as well, with Bissouma set to go to the AFCON.

Tottenham fans, then, will need to be patient if they want to see what should be their best midfield in action together.
