Ange Postecoglou now shares injury update on Rodrigo Bentancur after Tottenham vs Aston Villa

Ange Postecoglou has shared an update on Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury after Tottenham Hotspur suffered a defeat to Aston Villa today.

Spurs suffered their third loss on the bounce in the Premier League after Ollie Watkins and Pau Torres cancelled out Giovani Lo Celso’s opener.

Tottenham will feel hard done by after they dominated for large periods of the game. But they failed to make the most of their opportunities in front of goal.

Indeed, Son Heung-Min had the ball in the back of the net three times but was offside on each occasion.

Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski also hit the woodwork but Spurs were made to rue their missed chances.

Postecoglou made plenty of changes today as Eric Dier dropped to the bench, with Rodrigo Bentancur and Lo Celso making their first league starts of the season.

Bentancur has been working his way back following a lengthy lay-off after an ACL injury he picked up back in February.

The 26-year-old looked bright in the first half an hour before being forced off due to a heavy challenge by Matty Cash.

And Postecoglou has shared an update on the midfielder’s fitness, while also admitting he was impressed with Bentancur’s display.

Speaking to Football.London, Postecoglou admitted it looks as if Bentancur has picked up an ankle injury.

He said: “Yeah, not sure. It is his ankle I think. It wasn’t a great tackle. I thought he started the game so well and I think it was the reason we got a real good foothold on the game.

“He’s such a creative player. It’s the last thing we needed, another injury. So disappointed to lose him but we’re yet to see the extent of it.”

Sky Sports pundit Alan Smith labelled Bentancur’s display ‘classy’ before the Uruguay international was forced off.

Spurs are going through a difficult period when it comes to injuries at the moment, with several key players ruled out.

It was a huge shame to see him limp off the pitch after the midfielder had worked so hard to return to action.

He was arguably Tottenham’s best player before the injury and Spurs certainly felt his absence in midfield.
