‘Nonsense’… John McGinn shares what Celtic players said about Ange Postecoglou when he became Spurs boss

Aston Villa’s John McGinn has now been sharing what Celtic players told him about Ange Postecoglou when he became Tottenham Hotspur boss.

McGinn was speaking in an exclusive interview with the Mail Online and said he heard ‘the same old nonsense’ at first.

Of course, McGinn was speaking ahead of Villa and Tottenham facing off in a key top five clash later this afternoon.

And given what he was told by his friends at Celtic, he’ll be expecting a tough affair.

McGinn said: “When he was appointed Spurs manager I heard the same old nonsense us Scottish people hear down here: “Oh he’s only done well up there because it’s a pub league.

“But I had spoken to the Celtic players and my brothers who had played against his teams and they spoke very highly of him.”

Postecoglou is obviously doing an exceptional job since he’s been appointed in North London.

And although he’s now facing a big test in the wake of injuries to James Maddison and Micky van de Ven, Celtic fans will assure that the Australian does have the credentials to pull through.

This afternoon’s game really will be a litmus test for both Villa’s and Tottenham’s credentials this season.

Unai Emery’s side will be close to full strength, a side still trying to shake their inconsistent reputation of the past.

And although not blessed with the same availability, Postecoglou needs to get the best out of his extended Spurs squad.

Celtic players may have been favourable about Postecoglou to McGinn, but he’s under increased pressure at Tottenham.

Defeat at Wolves shouldn’t be too heavily scrutinised, a tough place to go for any team right now.

But Spurs simply can’t afford to limp their way to January whilst they suffer with suspension and injury.

Instead, Postecoglou will be so keen for his side to make a statement today.

And it seems as if he may have a surprise up his sleeve when it comes to his midfield selection.
