‘Not being disrespectful’… Pundit says £10m Tottenham player could struggle against Aston Villa

Tottenham face Aston Villa on Sunday in what will be a very tight game between two sides who have started the season well.

The north London club have been on a bit of a slump recently, losing each of their last two games, and they remain without a number of key players heading into this one.

There are two huge gaps in the Tottenham defence at the moment as Micky Van de Ven and Cristian Romero are both out of action, meaning that Eric Dier and Ben Davies are likely to start against Villa.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Clinton Morrison has been previewing this game, and according to the pundit, Davies and Dier could struggle here against Villa if they’re asked to play a high line.

Dier and Davies could struggle

Morrison spoke about Dier and his £10m centre-back partner.

“You think you’re going to lose? You can’t think like that. I’m a Tottenham fan and do you know why you can’t think like that? Think of the injuries they have at centre-back and the high line they play. I’m not being disrespectful to Eric Dier or Ben Davies, but if you have someone like Ollie Watkins or Diaby running at you with that much of a high line, you have to expect to get in there,” Morrison said.

Worrying

It has to be said that Spurs do have an issue there heading into this game.

As we’ve seen Ange Postecoglou loves to play a high line, and if your centre-backs are lacking pace, you’re just asking for trouble.

Ollie Watkins and Moussa Diaby certainly have the pace to exploit any gaps in this Spurs backline, and, as Morrison says, Villa can feel confident heading into this game that there are goals to be had.

Don’t be shocked if Villa manage to carve Spurs apart on Sunday and cause all sorts of problems for this makeshift centre-half partnership.
