‘Exceptional’: Ruud Gullit says he’s been utterly blown away by one man at Newcastle United

Ruud Gullit has been full of praise for Eddie Howe and the job he’s done at Newcastle.

Speaking on Up Front with Simon Jordan, the Dutchman was discussing his former club and their transformation over the past two years.

Gullit still has a soft spot for Newcastle after his spell at St James’ Park, and he says that Eddie Howe has really impressed him since going in at Newcastle.

Gullit says that he doesn’t only like Howe’s management, he likes his entire approach of bringing in players of a certain level and slowly making the team better and better.

Gullit hails Howe

The Dutchman spoke highly of the Magpies boss.

“Newcastle now, do you think that Eddie Howe is going to deliver things for them?” Jordan asked.

“I think Howe has been exceptional. What I like about Newcastle is that everyone thought that they would buy unbelievable players with the money they got, and that didn’t happen,” Gullit said.

“They will though, I guarantee they will, they’re going to have to,” Jordan said.

“I don’t know that, we don’t know that. I think the road they’re taking now is the best road, they’re taking it step-by-step. They’re in the Champions League now and people want to come, players slowly and slowly want to come to Newcastle now.”

Incredible job

Eddie Howe has done an incredible job at Newcastle, and, in all honesty, not many of us saw this coming.

Howe was seen as damaged goods when Newcastle went for him. He’d spent a year out of the game after leaving Bournemouth, and he was being linked with much smaller jobs at the time.

However, Newcastle took a punt on Howe, and boy has it paid off.

He’s transformed the club, and while he’s been backed by big-money signings, Newcastle have been far from the biggest spenders in Europe over the past two years.

Howe has certainly cemented himself as one of the best managers around since arriving on Tyneside.
