Newcastle United picked up a fantastic win over Manchester United at Old Trafford last night, but Eddie Howe confirmed after the game that Matt Targett’s injury does not look good.
The Magpies were on another level to Erik Ten Hag‘s side. They were the better team for almost the entire game and completely deserved their 3-0 win. Targett’s injury, however, is a big shame.
Eddie Howe says Matt Targett was struggling to walk after Newcastle vs Man United
It was a big day for Newcastle United star Matt Targett last night.
The 28-year-old had only started two games in all competitions before the clash at Old Trafford yesterday, and he would’ve wanted to show Eddie Howe and the coaching staff what he’s all about.
However, Targett went down with an injury just a minute into the game.
He was in considerable pain, and Howe had no choice but to take him off the pitch. He was replaced by Miguel Almiron very early in the game.
Newcastle went on to secure a memorable win over Manchester United without Targett last night, but Howe seemed really worried about the left-back after the game.

Injuries are hurting Newcastle
Newcastle United have had terrible luck with injuries this season.
The Magpies are currently without Harvey Barnes, Jacob Murphy, Elliot Anderson, Alexander Isak, Lewis Miley and Javier Manquillo.
Now, Targett has joined the list, and Howe’s comments after the game suggest that it’s not a minor issue for the left-back, who joined Newcastle on a permanent deal for £15 million last year (BBC).
Newcastle United fans should get an update on Targett’s injury in Howe’s press conference before the Arsenal game this weekend.
