Darren Bent says £25m West Ham star is perfect for Newcastle

Darren Bent believes that Newcastle United need a new right winger, and suggested that Jarrod Bowen would be perfect for the Magpies.

Bent was speaking on talkSPORT as he also picked out Michael Olise as an ideal target for Eddie Howe’s men as they look to keep building.

Newcastle silenced a lot of doubters in their first game after the international break. The Magpies thrashed Chelsea at St James’ Park to make a real statement after some underwhelming results before the break.

However, the club remain a work in progress as they look to move themselves alongside the title chasers in the Premier League. And Darren Bent shared some of the positions he feels that the club need to strengthen in.

One of those positions was right-wing, with Bent believing that they need an upgrade on Miguel Almiron. And he picked out the Crystal Palace star before then being asked about Jarrod Bowen.

“I like Almiron, I think he’s done really well. He’s come back from when people were making a mockery of him. But there are better right wingers out there,” he told talkSPORT.

“Someone like an Olise, Palace. Perfect. I know he’s just signed a new contract, but who knows what’s going to happen at Palace at the end of the season.

“He’d be perfect, Bowen. And it would be the right step for him.”

West Ham are not going to let talisman go without a big fight

Olise scored a stunning goal at the weekend as Crystal Palace were beaten by Luton Town. He is definitely an exceptional talent.

But Bowen is at the peak of his powers right now. The 26-year-old has scored eight goals in 12 Premier League games for the Hammers this season. Newcastle are one of just four sides he has faced and not scored against this term.

It has been suggested that Bowen is proving to be as good as Mohamed Salah. And that is saying something when you consider how good Salah has been.

West Ham fans would take exception with the idea that moving to Newcastle would be the right step for Bowen. And the Hammers would certainly not be willing to sell him without receiving a huge fee – perhaps the kind of amount which rivals what they received for Declan Rice. The £25 million star only recently signed a new seven-year contract.

Newcastle have spent money under their new owners. However, they have not smashed transfer records like many probably expected.

With that, it is hard to see Bowen ending up on Tyneside anytime soon.
