West Ham scouts working to sign 26-year-old player previously wanted by Newcastle

West Ham scouts are reportedly working hard to sign Zaidu Sanusi, who was wanted by Newcastle United last year.

Left-back is clearly a position the Irons are looking to improve on in the January window, with David Moyes having just the two options in Aaron Cresswell and Emerson Palmieri.

Yet according to TeamTalk, FC Porto’s Sanusi is now an option the Irons are looking to pursue, with the Nigerian international a top priority for West Ham scouts.

The east London side aren’t the first club to be linked with the 26-year-old, with BBC News reporting last year that Newcastle were interested in bringing the defender to St. James Park.

With Oscar Mingueza also a reported target for West Ham, it’s clear that defenders are on David Moyes’ mind, with the recruitment team now scouring Europe for options in January.

And Sanusi could be an excellent signing for West Ham, with a potential bargain in the works if the Hammers can work out a deal with Porto in the winter window.

With over 100 appearances for Porto, Sanusi has been a consistent performer at the highest level in European football with the Portuguese giants.

And heading into January, a new adventure with West Ham could be appealing for the Nigerian international, especially with the Hammers now a club that regularly plays on the continent.

With West Ham scouts now signalling out Sanusi as a top target, the club would be making a smart decision in pursuing with this option in January.

Indeed, more Premier League clubs could become interested in the 26-year-old, and West Ham have to ensure they’re quick off the mark to sign Sanusi in 2024.
