£50m player has already told Tottenham and Arsenal he does not want to join them

Ahead of a busy January transfer window, one centre-back that is garnering a lot of attention is now unlikely to sign for either Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham desperately need a centre-back, something that is top of Ange Postecoglou’s agenda.

And Arsenal are still lacking the elite-level of competition at the back that Mikel Arteta desires in all areas.

A player that suits both briefs is Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

Said to be on the wishlist of both North London clubs, TEAMtalk have now revealed that £50m Guehi is unlikely to go anywhere in January.

The player himself is very keen to have a settled and steady season given his excellent opportunity to start at the Euros for England.

That being said, this report states that Palace would also prefer to cash in after the tournament – one that could increase his asking price.

This will undoubtedly be a blow to both Arsenal and Tottenham, although perhaps more pressingly for the latter.

Spurs do have plenty of good options in their centre-back pursuit, but it won’t be easy to find a player capable of pushing both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

Marc Guehi will not consider a January move to Arsenal or Tottenham

The report does state that both London clubs have already been privy to this information, warning them off of any disruptive attempt.

And that perhaps explains why Tottenham are said to see a £40m Ligue 1 defender as their priority signing in January.

Marc Guehi will undoubtedly have a ton of interest when he is available, a player who could start for any Premier League side.

But amid the injury issues Crystal Palace are facing, they also couldn’t afford to lose him right now.

Perhaps his centre-back partner, Joachim Anderson, could also be a player top Premier League sides could also look at in the near future.

If Arsenal do act in January, they would probably prioritise their funds for either a central midfielder or a striker.

But given some extraordinary plans that have just emerged for next summer, they may hold off for now.

Marc Guehi would be an excellent addition for both Arsenal and Tottenham, but it does seem a credible decision that he will chooses patience right now.
