Darren Bent discusses what should happen to Matty Cash now after Rodrigo Bentancur injury news

With Tottenham Hotspur’s Rodrigo Bentancur now ruled out until February, many fans are still fuming with Aston Villa’s Matty Cash.

Although not deemed a red card challenge at the time, some Spurs fans feel retrospective action is needed given the extent of this new injury.

On the other hand, many believe that it wasn’t the best tackle by any means, but was one commonly seen in football, and nothing outrageous.

And Andy Goldstein and Darrent Bent have now been disagreeing on the ramifications Matty Cash should face.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Goldstein was convinced that the Villa defender should face a ban.

Goldstein said: “This is appalling. Bentancur was forced off just 23 minutes into his first start since February after falling victim to a crude challenge from Matty Cash.”

Bent replied: “That’s why the Spurs players were going crazy.”

Goldstein: “Yeah, but retrospectively, Matt Cash – and by all accounts a lovely fella, I have met him once and he seemed like a lovely guy, but irrelevant of who did that challenge he should be retrospectively banned.”

Bent: “By the letter of the law the tackle was not…it was awful, but it wasn’t high. It wasn’t out of control.

Goldstein: “It was! It was just below the shin.”

Bent: “I still wouldn’t say it was a red card but when you look at what’s happened you think b—— hell. But I didn’t look at it and think that’s a red card challenge.”

Pundit believes Villa’s Matty Cash should face ban given Rodrigo Bentancur’s Tottenham injury

Rodrigo Bentancur is now said to be ruled out until mid-February, which is a bitter blow in any context.

But given all of the issues Spurs are already contending with, it really is the last thing they need right now.

However, many will believe that Aston Villa’s Matty Cash shouldn’t face any further ramifications, that decisions shouldn’t be made based on the injury suffered.

Cash did miss-time his tackle, one that looks poor on reflection, but it’s probably wrong to say that there was any malice.

Unfortunately Rodrigo Bentancur was still building up his fitness, his body wasn’t at it’s most robust just yet.

And had another player faced the tackle, they may not end up being so unlucky with the injury suffered.

It’s a polarising subject, many will even disagree with these thoughts.

However, everyone of a Villa and Tottenham persuasion will be wishing Bentancur a swift recovery, including Cash.

The Uruguayan is brilliant midfielder who we are all so keen to see back to his best.
