Celtic’s Champions League exit this week has ignited the transfer talk and with the January window all but weeks away, Brendan Rodgers is looking to add quality to his squad.
Doubts remain on whether or not the Celtic board will spend big and heed Rodgers’ warnings however, journalist, Mark Guidi, believes that the Hoops could be about to spend big in January as the European wounds still linger.
Guidi said [The Go Radio Football Show], “I don’t think it’s acceptable. The results that they have had and find themselves where they are in this section.
“However, they are top of the league and moving into January, there are two, possibly three, key areas the manager wants strengthened in January, not waiting until the summer, strengthed in January.
“The right targets are there. I wouldn’t rule out Celtic spending £15m, I wouldn’t rule it out, strengthening the squad to get two or three of the right players in.
“The message has been clear from the manager now. He’s sick of saying it and the board have got the message. No more projects, proper players.”
Celtic must back Brendan Rodgers
The Celtic board must look to back Rodgers and get him whatever he needs in the January window. With Europe now gone, only the league title and the Scottish Cup are available for Brendan Rodgers.
Arguably, this league is the most important in recent times in terms of financial reward. With the Champions League being revamped, automatic entry into next season’s group stages is worth a potential £60m to the Scottish champions.
And if Celtic allows that money to find its way over to the other side of the city due to not being properly prepared in the transfer window, the fans will, quite rightly, be up in arms.
So the question is this. Do Celtic spend £15m and allow Rodgers to win the league and bring home a £60m kitty or not? It’s over to the board.
In other news, Celtic may not need to worry about being without £4.6m player in January
