Journalist Florian Plettenberg has now given an update on Jeremie Frimpong’s future after links to Arsenal this summer.
Plettenberg took to X to provide an illuminating update on a clause that exists within Frimpong’s contract at Bayer Leverkusen.
The journalist said that Frimpong has a £35m release clause that becomes active next summer, and the club are now expecting him to leave.
Moreover, Plettenberg confirmed that Arsenal-linked Frimpong is also very keen on a transfer.
He said: “News Jeremie Frimpong: Leverkusen expect him to leave the club in 2024. The 22 y/o is also very keen on a transfer.
“He has a release clause of €40m in the summer!
“Incredible season again. Best Bundesliga right winger/right-back at the moment: 6 goals and 7 assists in 17 matches yet.”
Of course, Frimpong became linked with Arsenal towards the end of the summer following Jurrien Timber’s injury.
The former Celtic full-back has an incredibly exciting profile going forwards, as demonstrated by his statistics above.
And if Mikel Arteta is still keen on the move, Arsenal may have just been given the green light.
Florian Plettenberg says Jeremie Frimpong wants to leave his club amid Arsenal links
Arsenal have recently been praised for their improved defensive robustness, but that has come at some cost to their creativity.
And perhaps adding a defender with Frimpong’s attacking instincts could be the next piece of the puzzle for Arteta.
Arsenal’s squad is evolving all of the time, and they do now have an immensely solid foundation to build upon.
Part of that credit has to be given to William Saliba, someone Micah Richards believes can become the best defender in the world.
And given Plettenberg’s update on Frimpong, a deal would also look incredibly good value for Arsenal.
In line with this update, this doesn’t seem like a move that will happen in January – Arsenal prefer to plan in the summer anyway.
But the 22-year-old could add another dimension to Arteta’s back line, a profile that isn’t currently present at the club.
