Tottenham will now prioritise signing £40m player who admits to being a ‘failure’ in last big move

Tottenham Hotspur have now turned their focus to signing Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo as they aim to strengthen Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

That’s according to The Standard who have now revealed that Tottenham have joined the race to sign Todibo alongside other Premier League sides.

Both Manchester United and Liverpool have been heavily linked with the 23-year-old in the past.

But this report does state that Todibo is in no rush to make a move given Nice are competing at the top of Ligue 1, however Spurs do have a pressing need.

It’s certainly no secret that Tottenham do want to recruit a centre-back in January, something they also considered late in the summer window.

And injury to Micky van de Ven, and suspension to Cristian Romero, has highlighted the lack of depth in the area more than anyone could have expected.

Although probably frustrated not to get another body in the summer, Postecoglou and Daniel Levy must have hoped they’d be fine until January.

However, the bad luck Tottenham have endured of late has been quite remarkable.

And as a result, the January window can’t come soon enough.

Tottenham have now made Jean-Clair Todibo their priority signing

Todibo is said to have a price tag of around £40m, a player who does now have two caps for France.

Formerly of Barcelona, there’s no doubting that Todibo has developed into a fine centre-back, one capable of playing Ange Postecoglou’s football.

However, that trajectory wasn’t an easy one, with Todibo admitting that his time in Spain was a ‘failure’, but one he learned a lot from.

Spurs’ troubles at the back are now very well documented, and it does only seem a matter of time until Eric Dier leaves the club.

Postecoglou is having to balance his new ideas and demands with faces from the past whom aren’t necessarily suitable.

And although Tottenham see the signing of Todibo as a priority in January, he might end up being the first of a few.

Had they not endured such bad fortune in the last month or so, this squad may have been able to reach the end of the season.

However, Spurs need signings, and Ally McCoist is convinced that one £25m attacker would be a perfect addition as well.
