Alan Brazil now suggests £30m player has become a scapegoat at Arsenal

Alan Brazil has now pointed out that Aaron Ramsdale was never the reason that Arsenal failed to win the Premier League last year.

Brazil was debating with Dean Saunders on talkSPORT this morning regarding Mikel Arteta’s thoughts on Ramsdale at Arsenal.

And whilst Saunders thought that Arteta may have seen Ramsdale as part of the responsibility for not winning the league, Brazil quickly rebuffed that idea.

Alan Brazil thought that £30m Ramsdale had now become something of a scapegoat at Arsenal, and it was the lack of a goalscorer that ultimately caused the slip up.

Brazil said (15/11, 6:27am): “Ramsdale is a number one and the coach, Arteta the coach is Spanish isn’t he? So he wanted Raya in. Ramsdale’s the best keeper, number one.”

Saunders replied: “What if Arteta thinks, we nearly won the league last year, we can’t win it with this goalkeeper, I’m going to get a new one.”

Brazil: “It’s nothing to do with the keeper! It’s the centre forward, he needs a goalscorer!”

Of course, there has already been a ton of debate on the merits of Arteta deciding to drop Ramsdale for David Raya

Despite having a strong season in Arsenal’s title run, the recollection of Ramsdale’s form seems to worsen by the week.

And whilst Arteta will insist that Ramsdale isn’t Arsenal’s new number two, the player is now likely to push for an exit next summer according to reports.

It’s certainly a messy situation, Arsenal looked to have England’s future goalkeeper tied down for years to come, and he’s now out in the cold.

And even if Raya is now seen as an upgrade, Ramsdale simply wasn’t at fault for the club last season.

Ramsdale stood big in the final few months of the season for Arsenal, and Brazil is right to defend him.

It will likely be a tough day for Arsenal fans should Ramsdale ever leave the club in the future.

A player who is a victim of circumstance, rather than his own form.
