Tottenham believe 19-year-old Premier League ‘superstar’ could be their Harry Kane replacement

Tottenham Hotspur now believe that Evan Ferguson could be their long-term answer to replacing Harry Kane at the club.

That’s according to a report by talkSPORT who do also reveal that Ferguson is in no rush to leave Brighton Hove Albion.

Ferguson recently signed a new deal with the club which is not believed to include a release clause.

Moreover, Brighton owner Tony Bloom does also believe that Ferguson is now worth more than Moises Caicedo, who departed for £115m.

Therefore, although Tottenham are strongly interested in the striker, it may prove to be a deal that is simply untenable.

Ferguson has had some brilliant moments in the Premier League, and clearly has so much potential, but such a big fee would be a big risk.

And given Spurs have already somewhat solved their centre-forward issue internally, with Son Heung-Min moving centrally, funds may be better used elsewhere.

Nonetheless, Tottenham fans would surely love to have a player of Ferguson’s calibre at the club, one who could reach the lofty heights of Harry Kane

But perhaps backup for James Maddison may be the priority.

Tottenham view Evan Ferguson as Harry Kane’s long-term replacement

It was reported in the summer that Tottenham preferred to replace Kane with several alternatives, rather than one big money replacement.

And although that may change as Ange Postecoglou’s project progresses, such a distributed approach would probably still be wise.

Spurs have several areas of their squad that still need improving, or just need added depth.

And the injury and suspension crisis that resulted from a chaotic night against Chelsea has really highlighted those insufficiencies.

James Maddison doesn’t have a replacement as mentioned, with Jamie Donley perhaps now best placed to act as cover.

Moreover, Tottenham still don’t have sufficient cover at centre-back either, as was highlighted last Saturday.

Postecoglou is still very early in his squad building in North London, a squad that is still bound see a ton of change.

And whilst ‘superstar’ Ferguson could act as a Kane replacement for Tottenham, those funds may be more wisely spent on several areas of this promising project.
