Chris Sutton says Arsenal now have a big ‘issue’ which Liverpool don’t

Chris Sutton has now been comparing the striking options that Arsenal and Liverpool have at their disposal this season.

Sutton was speaking on the BBC’s ‘The Monday Night Club’ and decided that Mikel Arteta does now have a problem at Arsenal in comparison to Liverpool.

The pundit recognised that Arsenal do have options, but he simply felt that Jurgen Klopp has superior ones.

Sutton said: “The issue with Arsenal is that and I think Alan Shearer said about Eddie Nketiah not being an elite striker and I think everybody feels there is maybe the thought there is a bit of a void in that centre-forward position for Arsenal, whereas Liverpool have that covered.

“Arteta can play Jesus, Nketiah, he can play Trossard if he wants as a false nine, but they don’t have the options that Liverpool have.”

And although some will agree, Sutton’s words do seem slightly harsh.

Right now it would appear that Gabriel Jesus is Arsenal’s first choice centre-forward, with Darwin Nunez occupying the number nine at Anfield.

Two incredibly exciting talents, but it would be difficult to suggest that one was ahead of the other.

Perhaps Sutton was referring to Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo acting as stronger back up than Eddie Nkeitah and Leandro Trossard.

Sutton thinks Liverpool have a much stronger strikers than Arsenal this season

Darwin Nunez has been in the spotlight of late, a player who is now being handed more trust by Klopp.

And Ian Wright has declared that the Uruguayan striker is now improving every week.

Wright was incredibly impressed by Nunez’s display against Brentford on Sunday, a performance that helped match an historic record for the club

However, Wright would probably stop short of suggesting that Mikel Arteta needed a player like Nunez over at the Emirates.

Gabriel Jesus is now being slightly underrated by pundits and fans alike, a player who has been incredibly successful in his career.

Moreover, Jesus has helped transform Arsenal into a title-challenging side.

So whilst Sutton does believe there’s a big discrepancy between the forwards that Arsenal and Liverpool have to choose from this season, he might be slightly understating those in North London.

Although often linked with Ivan Toney, Mikel Arteta’s side will be quietly confident that they do have the firepower required already.
