‘I have never seen anything like that’: Jamie Carragher left stunned by £17m Tottenham player last night

Jamie Carragher was left stunned by Guglielmo Vicario’s performance for Tottenham Hotspur against Chelsea last night.

Carragher was speaking on Sky Sports after a chaotic London derby last night which saw Tottenham reduced to nine men.

Ange Postecoglou suffered his first defeat in the Premier League at the hands of Chelsea on Monday evening.

Chelsea thrashed Spurs 4-1 in the end after Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were both sent off.

But the scoreline didn’t exactly reflect the effort Tottenham put into the game and on another night, they could have come away with a point.

The Blues bagged two goals in stoppage time but Spurs had a few chances to level the scoring beforehand.

And one man who almost single-handedly kept them in the game while they were reduced to nine men was Guglielmo Vicario

The £17 million man made several exceptional saves to keep the score at 2-1 and played as a sweeper keeper as Tottenham continued to play a high defensive line.

And Jamie Carragher was impressed with the Italian shot-stopper’s performance.

Carragher stunned by Vicario display

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher admitted he was stunned by Vicario’s display after last night’s game.

“Talk about the sweeper keeper, I have never seen anything like that,” the pundit said. “He has been an absolute revelation since he came to Tottenham.”

Plenty of Tottenham’s players can hold their heads up high despite a heavy home defeat to Chelsea.

Postecoglou’s men played the majority of the clash with fewer players than the Blues but the Spurs boss continued to try and take the game to the opposition.

Of course, this led to Chelsea being handed several opportunities as Spurs continued to play a high line with just nine men on the pitch.

But Vicario was exceptional once again and despite conceding four goals, he was arguably the standout performer on the night.
