Son Heung-min has shared what he said to James Maddison while the Tottenham Hotspur star was still playing for Leicester City, as he lauded the impact the attacking midfielder has had since his move to Spurs in the summer.
Son was speaking on Men In Blazers and suggested that the 26-year-old is the player Tottenham have needed since Christian Eriksen left the club in 2020.
James Maddison could have hardly made a better start to life at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The England international has scored three goals and contributed five assists in the Premier League for Ange Postecoglou’s men.
Son Heung-min lauds James Maddison
There is an argument that Maddison has been the best player in the Premier League this season. Certainly, he has taken no time at all to form an amazing partnership with Son Heung-min.
Son may not be at all surprised to see Maddison thriving in North London. The Tottenham captain has opened up on how he has been a fan of his teammate for some time – even making sure to praise him after coming up against his former club.
“After Christian Eriksen left the club, we didn’t have that type of player who can make that final decision, final pass. H did for a couple of years. But as soon as Madders came, you could see that Spurs needed a player like him. Obviously, he’s settled in really well. He works really hard to be a big part of this club. He’s just a shining boy, a star boy. And I’m just very glad to have this kind of player,” he told Men In Blazers.
“I was a big fan when he was still at Leicester. I still remember after a Leicester game, I said to him, ‘what a player you are. You’re a fantastic player’. And he really appreciated it.

Tottenham now have real point to prove
Tottenham may, unfortunately, be about to learn just how important Maddison is to their new-look side. He sustained an injury in the dramatic loss to Chelsea. And he missed the defeat to Wolves before the international break.
Maddison looks set to be out for the rest of the calendar year. That is definitely a massive blow for Tottenham, as he is capable of changing a game with a single moment of quality.
Certainly, Son is likely to find life tougher without him. And Spurs now have a point to prove with many wondering how they will cope while he is on the sidelines.
It certainly appears to be an absolutely massive blow for Tottenham after their rapid start to the season.
