Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has been described as a “sensational footballer” by Gary Neville.
The pundit, speaking on Sky Sports, believes the Reds talent’s skill with the ball is “equal” to that of Kevin De Bruyne.
Neville was speaking following Liverpool’s draw with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in Saturday’s early Premier League kickoff.
Jurgen Klopp’s charges fell behind in the 27th minute to Erling Haaland’s 50th Premier League goal, slotting into the corner from Nathan Ake’s ball.
However, in the 80th minute, Mohamed Salah set up Alexander-Arnold to a low shot into the corner of Ederson’s net to restore parity.
The game finished honours even, a result that Liverpool were buzzing with, while for the Citizens, it was a case of two points dropped.
Once again, Alexander-Arnold was key in helping Liverpool build their attacks and he was always a threat with his passing and delivery.
And aside from his attacking work, the 25-year-old impressed at the other end. He had a tough task on his hands against the Jeremy Doku but he handled things fairly well.
‘A sensational football player’
“I’ve been critical of him at times,” Neville told Sky Sports after the game. “This is a sensational football player, and a striker of a ball you just don’t see.
“Man City have De Bruyne injured, who is world class in terms of delivery, striking of the ball and passing.
“Trent is the equal of him – and he’s a right-back! Not a traditional right back, but that’s where he plays.
“Just get that little bit more serious about your defending – but I thought his attitude towards his defending was very good today.”
Alexander-Arnold is such an amazing player for Liverpool and England. He has so many strings on his bow and it’ll be exciting to see how he continues to develop as a player.
