Jude Bellingham and James Maddison absolutely loved 25-year-old Liverpool star’s latest international display

Jude Bellingham and James Maddison have both sent messages to Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold after his latest display for England.

England picked up an unconvincing 2-0 win over Malta at Wembley on Friday but Trent Alexander-Arnold impressed in midfield.

The 25-year-old has been operating in an inverted full-back role for Liverpool this season. And with stiff competition for a place at right-back in the England side, Gareth Southgate has been using the Liverpool star in midfield of late.

It’s fair to say that Alexander-Arnold’s display on Friday night left the media impressed as he picked up the Man of the Match award.

He started alongside former Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson and Conor Gallagher in midfield against Malta.

Alexander-Arnold was undoubtedly the standout performer in the middle of the park on the night and his display has led to praise from Tottenham’s James Maddison and Jude Bellingham on social media.

Alexander-Arnold took to Instagram yesterday to express his delight after picking up a win at Wembley.

He wrote: “Friday Night Lights.”

Both Bellingham and Maddison left comments beneath the post, with the latter clearly a fan of the Liverpool star wearing the No10 shirt.

Despite his excellent form for Liverpool over the years, Alexander-Arnold has struggled to make an impact on the international stage.

That’s largely down to Southgate’s preference to play Kyle Walker at right-back, with the Manchester City star offering more defensive security.

But if Alexander-Arnold continues to impress in midfield, there could be a place in the side up for grabs, with Bellingham and Declan Rice the only nailed-on starters at this moment in time.

Indeed, Southgate has received plenty of criticism over his decision to include Henderson and Kalvin Phillips in his latest England squads.

Phillips has struggled for minutes at City while Henderson has taken a step down in the latter stages of his career after moving to the Saudi Pro League over the summer.

While Alexander-Arnold isn’t playing regularly in midfield for Liverpool, his role requires him to drift into the middle of the park under Klopp.

He’s shown he’s capable of performing in a central midfield role and it would be interesting to see him used alongside Bellingham and Declan Rice for England.
