‘Unbelievable’ defender is Tottenham’s most viable January signing, he’s currently injured

Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly is reportedly Tottenham Hotspur’s most ‘viable’ signing in January.

That’s according to The Standard, with the outlet sharing an update on Tottenham’s search for a new centre-back.

Ange Postecoglou looks set to bring in a new defender in January following Micky van de Ven’s injury.

The Dutchman had excelled alongside Cristian Romero in the early stages of his Spurs career but faces a spell on the sidelines until the new year.

With Romero also serving a three-match ban at the moment, Tottenham’s lack of depth at centre-back has become apparent.

Spurs did explore a move for Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly over the summer.

But they were unable to lure the centre-back away from the Vitality Stadium, with Eric Dier also remaining at the club.

Yet, it seems that Tottenham could revisit their interest in Kelly as they explore possible options to bolster Postecoglou’s backline.

Kelly is Tottenham’s ‘most viable’ signing

The Standard reports that Spurs are eyeing moves for the likes of Marc Guehi, Jarrad Branthwaite and Jean-Clair Tobido.

But Crystal Palace and Everton will ‘fight’ to keep hold of both Guehi and Branthwaite in January.

As for Tobido, he’s keen on a Premier League switch but is currently fighting for the Ligue 1 title with Nice.

It means that Kelly could be the most realistic centre-back option for Spurs as his contract is set to expire in the summer.

Yet, it’s also noted the defender picked up a hamstring injury over the weekend and could be set for a spell on the sidelines.

Spurs are in desperate need of extra quality at centre-back and Kelly would certainly fit the bill.

The 25-year-old has impressed during his time at Bournemouth and boasts the required qualities to play in a Postecoglou system.

Indeed, the ‘unbelievable’ defender boasts decent pace and as a left-footed centre-back, he’d provide excellent cover for Van de Ven.

But it would be a surprise to see Spurs move for him in January if he’s carrying an injury. The Cherries will also be reluctant to let one of their best defenders leave as they fight to stay in the Premier League.
