TalkSPORT pundit claims Tottenham would’ve beaten Aston Villa if 30-year-old was up-front

Jason Cundy has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur would have beaten Aston Villa if Harry Kane was up-front.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Cundy believes Tottenham missed their former talisman for the ‘first time’ this season on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou’s men were made to rue their wasted chances in North London as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

Despite naming a makeshift back four and midfield due to mounting injury and suspension problems, Spurs dominated an in-form Villa side.

Tottenham rattled the woodwork twice in the game and had the ball in the back of the net three times through Son Heung-Min. But each of the South Korean’s efforts was ruled out due to offside.

Spurs also wasted several 1v1 opportunities and couldn’t make the most of the times they exposed Villa’s high defensive line.

And Jason Cundy believes they would have won the game had Harry Kane still been at the club.

Cundy claims Tottenham would’ve beaten Aston Villa with Kane

Speaking on talkSPORT, Cundy suggested Kane would have finished some of the opportunities Tottenham created against Villa.

“You played well,” the former Spurs man said. “But you know what it’s the first time you looked like you have missed Kane.

“I think with Kane up top, you win that game.”

Son has stepped up well since Kane’s departure over the summer, netting eight times already in the Premier League.

But the 31-year-old is without a goal in his last three games, with Spurs suffering consecutive defeats.

Of course, Kane has excelled at Bayern Munich after sealing a switch to Germany on the eve of the season.

The 30-year-old has netted a staggering total of 22 goals and registered seven assists in just 17 appearances for Bayern.

It’s fair to say that Spurs haven’t exactly missed Kane up until this point as they enjoyed such an encouraging start to the season. But with several key players sidelined, it’s no surprise to see his name being mentioned again.

The England captain would have likely thrived in this current Spurs side due to the volume of chances they create.

Yet, Spurs need to move forward, rather than looking back and despite a recent slump in form, they are heading in the right direction under Postecoglou’s guidance.
