West Ham player could now be out with injury for nine months, fears are growing

West Ham United striker Michail Antonio could reportedly face a spell of up to nine months on the sidelines.

That’s according to The Telegraph, which notes that West Ham are ‘furious’ after the striker suffered a knee injury on international duty with Jamaica.

Michail Antonio remains an integral part of David Moyes’ side, despite his struggles in front of goal over the past 18 months.

The 33-year-old has featured in every Premier League game for West Ham this season, netting twice and registering two assists.

But if Antonio’s injury turns out to be the worst-case scenario, the Hammers could be without their striker for the rest of the season.

Antonio could be out for nine months

The Telegraph reports that West Ham are ‘furious’ after Antonio played on for 10 minutes after suffering the injury in Jamaica’s clash with Canada on Saturday.

It’s noted that Antonio is flying back to England for scans. But there are growing concerns at West Ham that he could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Indeed, the Hammers are also angry due to the state of the pitch at Kingston’s Independence Park, which could have caused Antonio’s knee injury.

It remains unclear how long Antonio will be out for and West Ham are hopeful he’ll only face six weeks on the sidelines.

Yet, the ‘worst-case scenario’ is that the 33-year-old could miss the next nine months due to the injury.

The Evening Standard also reports there are fears at West Ham over Antonio’s injury.

Antonio has become an important part of Moyes’ side over the past few seasons and it would be a huge blow to lose him for the remainder of the campaign.

The Hammers do have Danny Ings as an option but the Englishman has struggled for form since joining from Aston Villa.

Jarrod Bowen and Mohamed Kudus have both shown they can operate through the middle. But they don’t offer the same physical presence Antonio provides up front.
