A fresh report has shared how Eric Dier has reacted behind the scenes at Tottenham Hotspur after a lack of minutes this season.
Eric Dier has found game time hard to come by under Ange Postecoglou, having started just once in the Premier League this season.
The 29-year-old was given the nod against Wolves before the international break, with Micky van de Ven sidelined and Cristian Romero suspended.
But the Englishman dropped back to the bench once again yesterday as Postecoglou went with two full-backs at centre-back – Emerson Royal and Ben Davies.
Tottenham ultimately fell to a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa on Sunday and Dier watched on from the bench.
Michael Dawson was surprised to see Dier dropped and it seems clear the defender has no long-term future at Spurs while Postecoglou is in the dugout.
And after being a key man under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, it seems Dier respects Posetcoglou’s stance.
How Dier has reacted to Postecoglou treatment
The Daily Mail reports that Postecoglou has been ‘entirely honest’ with Dier over his current position in the squad.
And it’s noted that the defender appreciates the Spurs boss’ stance.
Dier’s days at Spurs seem to be numbered, especially as Postecoglou has shown he prefers a full-back over him.
The Englishman’s current deal runs until the end of the campaign and it wouldn’t be a shock to see him move on in January.
Tottenham will be keen to snap up a new centre-back given their recent struggles in the position following Micky van de Ven’s injury.
Dier just isn’t well-suited to Postecoglou’s system and his lack of pace leaves them exposed while playing a high defensive line.
But it’s brilliant to hear that Dier maintains a decent relationship with Postecoglou and is acting professionally behind the scenes.
