Angel Di Maria has sent a message to Giovani Lo Celso on Instagram after his display for Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.
Tottenham suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday as they were made to rue their missed opportunities in the game.
Ange Postecoglou was without several first-team players, with the likes of Pape Matar Sarr, James Maddison and Micky van de Ven missing out through injury.
Yves Bissouma and Cristian Romero were also suspended, which led to Giovani Lo Celso and Rodrigo Bentancur being handed their first Premier League starts of the campaign.
Bentancur’s day was cut short after a late challenge from Matty Cash forced him off with an ankle injury. But Lo Celso lasted 86 minutes for Spurs and netted his first goal of the campaign to give them a lead in the first half.
The 27-year-old earned praise from Ange Postecoglou after the game and showed Tottenham may just have a player who’s capable of stepping up in Maddison’s absence.
And Lo Celso has impressed his compatriot Angel Di Maria with his latest display for Spurs.
Di Maria sends message to Lo Celso after Spurs vs Villa
Lo Celso took to Instagram yesterday to thank the Spurs fans for their support in North London.
He wrote: “Not the result we wanted, but we’ll keep fighting. Thanks to our fans for the support!”
And Di Maria left a reply beneath the post.
Lo Celso has only managed four appearances in the Premier League this season after picking up an injury back in August.
But the £27 million man has returned to full fitness at an ideal time for Spurs given their long list of injuries.
The Argentine international impressed in pre-season under Postecoglou so it’s no real surprise to see him put in an encouraging display yesterday.
Spurs will have to lean on his creativity in the middle of the park with Maddison out injured and Bentancur possibly facing another spell on the sidelines.
