‘Worried’… Frank Leboeuf now says two players just simply aren’t good enough for Tottenham

Frank Leboeuf has claimed that Ben Davies and Eric Dier simply aren’t good enough for Tottenham Hotspur anymore.

Leboeuf has been speaking on the ESPN FC podcast and admitted he’s ‘worried’ about Tottenham’s back-up options.

Tottenham have been hit with a couple of huge injury blows over the past week as Micky van de Ven and James Maddison look set for lengthy spells on the sidelines.

Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero both picked up red cards in the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea, which led to Ange Postecoglou naming a makeshift backline at Wolves on Saturday.

Spurs did put in a resilient display right up until stoppage time after leading through an early Brennan Johnson goal. But Tottenham shipped two late goals and fell to their second defeat in the space of a week.

Eric Dier started alongside Ben Davies at centre-back, with the latter putting in an impressive performance.

Yet, Frank Leboeuf feels both players aren’t good enough to start for Tottenham.

Leboeuf says Dier and Davies aren’t good enough for Tottenham

Speaking on ESPN FC, Leboeuf expressed concerns over a lack of quality depth at Spurs.

“Tottenham, I’m a little bit concerned because they don’t have any back-ups,” the pundit said. “They have good players but as soon as somebody is missing, you can see they’re not replaced at a proper level.

“Yesterday, I mentioned I was worried about the two centre-backs and I saw today that Davies and Dier, they didn’t show me they can cope even against a team like Wolves.”

It’s well-documented that Tottenham were attempting to offload Dier over the summer as they searched for a new centre-back.

Spurs did manage to snap up Van de Ven and the Dutchman has starred alongside Romero.

But with the duo sidelined, Tottenham’s lack of quality depth at centre-back could prove costly.

While Leboeuf’s comments seem harsh given Davies put in an exceptional display on Saturday, he makes a great point about Spurs’ depth.

Postecoglou now faces the task of trying to navigate through a difficult period after such a promising start to the campaign.
