Ange Postecoglou hands ‘phenomenal’ youngster Premier League debut in Tottenham predicted XI vs Wolves

Ange Postecoglou will be faced with several selection dilemmas as Tottenham Hotspur travel to Wolves for the early kick-off on Saturday.

After a chaotic 4-1 defeat to Chelsea on Monday evening where Spurs had two men sent off, Ange Postecoglou will be forced to name a makeshift backline.

Cristian Romero was sent off for a rash challenge on Enzo Fernandez while Destiny Udogie was also given his marching orders later in the game.

In what was an almost unbelievable first half for Spurs fans, two key players in James Maddison and Micky van de Ven were also forced off due to injury.

And in our view, it’s the right time for Postecoglou to give summer signing Ashley Phillips a chance in the side.

Tottenham predicted XI vs Wolves

Guglielmo Vicario put in an exceptional display on Monday evening despite conceding four goals and looks set to keep his place between the sticks.

Pedro Porro also impressed and looks likely to be the only defender who started against Chelsea who’ll be available for Wolves.

Elsewhere, Romero and Udogie are suspended while Van de Ven is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Tottenham snapped up centre-back Ashley Phillips from Blackburn Rovers over the summer and the 18-year-old has already impressed Postecoglou in training.

It feels like the right time to give the youngster an opportunity with Spurs short of options at centre-back. The Englishman has been described as a ‘phenomenal’ talent and would partner Eric Dier at centre-back, with Emerson Royal moving out to left-back.

Spurs also have injury problems in midfield as Maddison was forced off on Monday evening. The Telegraph claims there were concerns over the 26-year-old’s fitness heading into the Chelsea game.

We think it’s the right time to give Maddison a rest as he’s picked up a couple of knocks already this season. To help Spurs cope with a loss of creativity, Rodrigo Bentancur could come in for Maddison to play alongside Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr.

Postecoglou does have the luxury of naming an unchanged front-three of Son Heung-Min, Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson.

The latter impressed during the early stages of the Chelsea game before being replaced by Dier after Romero’s red card.

Here is our Tottenham predicted XI for Saturday’s trip to Wolves in full.
