What Roy Keane has now said about Pep Guardiola managing Manchester United

Roy Keane has backed Pep Guardiola to succeed at Manchester United, with Ian Wright also agreeing with the hypothetical appointment.

Speaking on Stick To Football, the Red Devils legend approved the idea of the Catalan coach transforming United back into their previous best self under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Despite the rivalry between United and City, Keane was clearly open to the idea of Guardiola managing his former club in some weird alternative universe.

Keane said when asked if Guardiola would be a good fit at United: “I’d go, yeah. I think he’d see through all that and move people on.

“He has the structure right at City, but I just think Pep has the personality and I think he’s a great manager.

“We have always argued he has had great players to work with, but that brings its own challenges, and the style of play and the goals and the demands he puts on people.”

It’s not just Keane who thought Guardiola would suit United, with Wright also chipping in that the City boss could be ideal for the Manchester giants.

Wright added: “Players get better under him, that’s what we’re not seeing at United at the minute, you’d have to feel he’d do the same at United.”

Hypothetical questions like this is are great when centered around football, and Guardiola taking on the United job after Sir Alex left is one such debate.

The former Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona manager is easily one of the greatest to ever do it, with City’s current side arguably the best Premier League team to ever compete in the top-flight.

And for United, the decision to not appoint Guardiola when his stock was at his highest, even back in 2013, has now looked like a colossal own goal.

The Red Devils have been in complete free fall since Ferguson’s departure ten years ago, and a move for Guardiola around that time could have kept United at the top of their perch in English football.
