International midfielder says £40m Tottenham player’s first touch is the best he’s ever seen

Notts County and Malta midfielder Jodi Jones has hailed Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison’s first touch.

The 26-year-old England star has been incredible this season. He has been one of the best players in the Premier League, and Jones says he has seen nobody whose first touch is as good as Maddison’s.

Jodi Jones says Tottenham star James Maddison’s first touch is the best he has ever seen

Tottenham signed James Maddison from Leicester City in the summer for £40 million (Sky Sports).

The Englishman has always been one of the most talented attacking midfielders in the country, but there were doubts over whether he could deliver for a big club. That’s probably why none of the other top sides in the Premier League tried to sign him in the summer.

Spurs, however, made Maddison their number one target, and a quick chat with Ange Postecoglou convinced the midfielder to make the move.

Maddison has been absolutely outstanding for Spurs this season, and Jodi Jones, his good friend, has now claimed that the Englishman has the best first touch he has ever seen.

The Malta midfielder told The Athletic: “He is a good guy. I say that to everyone. Some people might see him as arrogant. But when you know him, you understand that he just believes in his ability.

“He backs himself. He is confident. Without that, I don’t think he would be where he is now. I still don’t think I have seen anyone with a better first touch than him, which takes him into another position — it might take him past a player; it might give him space for a shot.”

Maddison’s injury is a huge blow for Tottenham

Tottenham assembled a fantastic first XI in the summer, and when nearly everyone was available, they were one of the best sides in the country.

However, in one game, Tottenham lost James Maddison and Micky van de Ven to injuries, while Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie got themselves sent off. Yves Bissouma is suspended for the next game as well, which leaves Postcoglou with a lot of decisions to make.

The biggest blow for Spurs, however, is Maddison’s injury. The Englishman has been pulling the strings for Tottenham since the start of the season, and without him, there is very little creativity in the final third.

Maddison is expected to be out till the new year, and that could cost Spurs dearly.
