Pundit Mark Schwarzer has now been lauding praise on Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven following his start at the club.
Schwarzer was discussing his Team of the Season so far in the Premier League with Thomas Sorensen on ‘The Optus Sport Football Podcast’.
And the pundits were unanimous that the £100k-a-week Dutch defender was deserving of a spot.
As well as singing his praises, Schwarzer did also mention what a loss van de Ven would be when injured for Tottenham.
Schwarzer said: “I’m going to pick my one now, another defender. I’m going to say, another Spurs player, Micky Van de Ven.
Sorensen replied: “He’s in mine as well.”
Schwarzer: “Well we’re unanimous, that’s absolutely brilliant, because I think he’s been absolutely brilliant and a big, big loss for Spurs and by the sounds of things he’s out for a considerable time which is a real shame as he’s been absolutely awesome so far.”
Of course, very few would argue against those merits.

Van de Ven is arguably competing with James Maddison as the signing of the season across the Premier League, a satisfying situation for Spurs.

Although, fans won’t need reminding that both of those stars will now be missing for much of the festive period.
Tottenham may now look to the transfer market to strengthen those areas of their squad, but they still have a difficult month or so to navigate in the meantime.
Evan Ferguson is often spoke about as a transfer target, although Spurs have now been dealt a blow in that pursuit.
However, they are probably best advised to take a more scattered approach to their recruitment in the windows to come.
Tottenham’s squad is still barely in Ange Postecoglou’s image, and still needs a lot of attention.
Of course, it bodes well that the players Spurs have already recruited under Ange have started so well.
Like many, Schwarzer may have not even been aware of van de Ven’s profile before the season started, and he’s now one of the most important players at Tottenham just a few months later.
