Alasdair Gold shares what medical experts have just told him about Micky van de Ven’s injury

Journalist Alasdair Gold has shared what ‘medical experts’ have told him about Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven’s injury.

Speaking in his latest YouTube video, Gold provided an update on Micky Van de Ven’s injury and stated the defender is still expected to return in the new year.

The 22-year-old picked up a hamstring injury in the defeat to Chelsea and was originally not expected to play again until next year

A social media post on Van de Ven’s Instagram account over the weekend led to many Tottenham fans hoping he could return ahead of schedule. But Gold claimed on Friday that nothing has changed in terms of the defender’s recovery timeline

Now, the Football.London journalist has shared what medical experts have told him about the Dutchman’s recovery.

What medical experts have said about Van de Ven’s injury

Gold has insisted that Van de Ven’s recovery timeline remains the same at this stage.

The journalist also states medical experts have told him that despite the fact Van de Ven hasn’t undergone surgery, it could still take up to 12 weeks for him to recover.

“Right now, it still seems to be on the original recovery timeline,” Gold said. “The other thing people keep saying is ‘because he hasn’t had surgery, he isn’t going to be out that long’. That’s just not how it works.

“I have properly spoken to medical experts on this, not just used my own knowledge by Googling on the NHS site, which I have done as well. Medical experts have told me that even a hamstring injury not requiring surgery could still take 12 weeks to heal. It can still need that amount of time.

“I think you can have a grade 3, which is the worst one, and still not require surgery. Again, it hasn’t been released what kind of grade this injury is yet.”

Losing Van de Ven until the new year is a huge blow to Ange Postecoglou.

The Dutchman has been exceptional since his summer switch from Wolfsburg and James Maddison is also set for a similar spell on the sidelines after picking up an ankle injury.

But Postecoglou will hopefully welcome Destiny Udogie back for Tottenham’s clash against Aston Villa this weekend, while Cristian Romero faces two more games out of action after his red card at Chelsea.

Spurs are likely to be wary of rushing Van de Ven back in fear of the defender aggravating his current hamstring injury.

Tottenham fans will know all too well that these injuries can easily reoccur as the likes of Ryan Sessegnon and Dele Alli struggled with similar issues.
