What Tottenham’s medical team are now seriously worried about with Micky van de Ven

Tottenham Hotspur’s medical staff are now becoming very concerned with the potential severity of Micky van de Ven’s hamstring injury.

According to a report by the Mail Online, Tottenham’s medical team are now worried that van de Ven’s injury may see him missing for months rather than weeks.

There are worries that the hamstring tear may be more severe than a grade two, meaning the defender will miss the rest of the year and may even require surgery.

Therefore, the results of van de Ven’s scan really can’t come soon enough for Ange Postecoglou and his team.

Although it’s a massive blow, the management team will now need to plan for a period without their pacey defender.

Cristian Romero will of course be missing for three games as well owing to suspension.

And despite his poor decision-making, Postecoglou was quick to defend Romero after the game.

In a strange turn of events, Eric Dier will now be a leader of the back line he was deemed surplus to requirements for.

And it seems that Ashley Phillips may be the favourite to join him there.

Dejan Kulusevski has now shared his confidence that Phillips is ready for the step up

Of course, Tottenham will also be without Destiny Udogie for a game as well following his second yellow card.

Therefore, Pedro Porro will be the sole survivor of the back four that started against Chelsea.

And given van de Ven’s injury, Postecoglou will now need to lean on his Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

As well as his obvious shot-stopping ability, Postecoglou will now also need Vicario to take a leadership role.

The Italian has looked very vocal on the pitch, particularly against Chelsea.

And several Spurs players will now have the opportunity to prove their worth to this squad.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see if van de Ven’s issue does now accelerate any Tottenham plans to recruit a defender in January

Moving on Eric Dier now doesn’t seem like a good idea, but adding to the side’s squad depth could now be vital.
