‘Minimum’: TalkSPORT pundit now predicts how long Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven will be out for

Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven suffered a hamstring injury last night, and talkSPORT pundits Ally McCoist and Andy Townsend have been discussing how long he could be out for.

Spurs suffered a 4-1 defeat to Chelsea last night, but what’s more painful than the loss is the injury to Van de Ven and Cristian Romero’s suspension because of his ‘mad’ challenge. The Dutchman could be out for a lot longer than his defensive partner – perhaps even until the start of next year.

Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven’s injury could be serious

Hamstring injuries are terrible, especially for fast players like Tottenham‘s Micky van de Ven.

The Dutch international has been one of the signings of the summer. He has barely put a foot wrong for Spurs this season, and he is undoubtedly one of their most important players.

However, Van de Ven appeared to have suffered a very painful hamstring injury during the defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League last night.

The 22-year-old struggled to even walk off the pitch, and that has raised concerns over how long he may have to spend on the sidelines.

McCoist feels he could be out for six to eight weeks, while Townsend thinks he could be sidelined for as long as 10 weeks, which means he could be out until the start of next year.

Townsend said on talkSPORT (7th November 2023, 6:25 am): “I mean, never mind the ramifications of the defeat last night, losing [Micky] Van de Ven, he’s been so good for them this season, and to lose him, it’s almost more devastating I think that the losing the three points on the night.

“He’s out, I would imagine looking at when your hammy goes like that, it goes with a real ping as it did, what we talking?”

McCoist replied: “Minimum six [weeks], if not eight.”

Townsend then said: “If not, ten, depending on the severity of it.”

Massive blow for Tottenham

There is no official confirmation about the extent of Micky van de Ven’s injury, but it definitely doesn’t look like a minor knock that he can shake off.

Hamstring injuries usually keep players out for a few weeks. Tottenham fans will be hoping it’s just two or three weeks, but anything more than that is a big concern.

Ange Postecoglou has to find a way to solve this problem. He will be without both Van de Ven and Cristian Romero for a while, and that is a massive issue.

It will be interesting to see how Tottenham will cope without their two first-choice defenders.
