Liverpool’s Jarell Quansah says he has been watching videos of £42.5m Tottenham player

Liverpool youngster Jarell Quansah has claimed that he has been studying Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero’s defending by watching videos of him.

The 20-year-old has been a surprise package for the Reds this season. He has been brilliant for his age, and his performances show he has been putting in the work behind the scenes at Liverpool. Quansah hasn’t just been working hard on the pitch, he has also been watching videos of top defenders in Europe like Romero.

Liverpool’s Jarell Quansah says he has been watching videos of Tottenham’s Cristian Romero

Tottenham signed Cristian Romero on a permanent deal last year in a deal worth £42.5 million (Daily Mail).

The Argentine initially joined Spurs on loan from Atalanta, but there was never any doubt that the North Londoners would make that move permanent.

Romero has been Tottenham’s best defender since he joined the club. Yes, he can be a bit reckless at times, as he was against Chelsea earlier this month, but he is still a very, very good centre-half.

Liverpool youngster Jarell Quansah is a player with huge potential, and he has now admitted that he studies videos of top central defenders like Sergio Ramos, Leonardo Bonucci and Spurs vice-captain Romero.

He told the Daily Mail: “‘I used to get high-cam footage instead of TV footage so you could see everything, how the back line moves and a little bit of everything.

“You just need to ask the right people. The way I learn is (by) watching players. These players have played 400-500 games at the top level. It would be stupid for me not to watch them. It’d be like having a resource and just throwing it away, I couldn’t live with myself if I did that.

“I love watching different countries and the way they defend. In Spain, I looked at Sergio Ramos, Bonucci in Italy and sometimes I’ll go on a mad one and watch any South American defenders. Especially Argentinian because I love the way they defend, Cristian Romero.”

Romero is a great example for Quansah

Jarell Quansah doesn’t really need much help as he has the best defender in the world – Virgil van Dijk – to learn from right next to him. However, studying other top centre-backs always helps.

Tottenham star Romero is a great example for the Liverpool youngster – not just for the good things the Argentine does on the pitch.

Romero’s positioning, aggressiveness and ability on the ball make him a great defender and Quansah should try to pick up all of those traits. However, the Tottenham man also has the tendency to do something stupid and get himself sent off.

Quansah would’ve watched the bad side of Romero’s game too, and he should do everything to avoid that.
