‘Stupid’…Harry Redknapp slams 25-year-old Tottenham player

Harry Redknapp has been discussing the memorable Tottenham v Chelsea match last weekend and picked out Cristian Romero for criticism.

Spurs were eventually beaten 4-1 by Chelsea as Ange Postecoglou stuck to his guns and played a high line which the Blues initially struggled to break down.

However, the injuries and red cards from the game caught up with Tottenham eventually and they were comfortably beaten in the end.

Of course, one of the players to see red was defender Cristian Romero. And speaking in his column for The Sun, former Spurs boss Redknapp has criticised the Argentinian.

Harry Redknapp unhappy with Cristian Romero during Tottenham v Chelsea

Writing about the game in The Sun, Redknapp lamented the lack of quality for Chelsea. However, he also picked up errors from Spurs, and called Romero ‘stupid’ for his tackle on Enzo Fernandez.

“Spurs were to blame for some of it, some of the tackling was reckless. Cristian Romero could easily have ended Enzo Fernandez’s career for one thing with a dreadful challenge,” Redknapp said.

“That was stupid. But Chelsea’s tactics also left a lot to be desired with Tottenham there to be beaten 10-0.”

Romero was then missing from the loss at Wolves yesterday and with Micky van de Ven also out injured, it’s created a huge problem for Ange Postecoglou to deal with.

Tottenham were bundling along nicely and are still in a great position in the league.

However, Romero has now been sent off four times since he joined and at the very top level, you just cannot afford to be so reckless.

Postecoglou will need to try and get a grip on this sort of thing. The last two games have shown a real lack of experience and discipline which will prove costly.
