Liverpool have been brilliant this season.
The Reds look back to something close to their best after a very patchy campaign last time around.
After missing out on Champions League qualification last term, the Merseyside club look nailed on for a top four spot this time around, and a title challenge isn’t out of the question either.
Speaking on Virgin Media Sport, Richard Dunne has been discussing the Reds’ rebirth this term, and he says that Virgil Van Dijk’s return to form has really helped the Merseyside club get back on track.
Van Dijk is back to his best
Dunne shared his verdict on the defender.
“I think a big improvement for them this season has been the return to form of Van Dijk. He’s been excellent. I think they have conceded just 11 goals, the second-best defence in the Premier League this season which has helped them. The regeneration of the midfield area has been perfect and the front five they have will be a real threat to anyone,” Dunne said.
Van Dijk has been incredible
Van Dijk isn’t quite back to his very best, but he’s still proving himself to be the best centre-back in the Premier League.
Last season, many wondered if Van Dijk’s era of dominance was coming to an end as he looked a yard or two off the pace and was ultimately unable to cope with a number of situations.
However, this term, Van Dijk looks completely revitalised, he’s dominating in almost every game he plays, and while he’s not quite the force he was during that 2019/20 season, he’s not far off.
Liverpool will have a real shot at winning the Premier League if Van Dijk remains at this level throughout the entire season.
