‘I’ve said it before’: £15pw Celtic star speaks about signing a new contract at Parkhead

With Celtic reportedly looking to let players move on in January, there are some at the club that the club should still look to hold onto.

Liam Scales is a great example of that. Entering into the last 18 months of his contract, Scales has been a revelation at Celtic this season.

Now an integral part of the Hoops first team, the Republic of Ireland international is deserving of a new deal and, hopefully, Brendan Rodgers has him in his thoughts over the coming months.

However, there is a more pressing issue that needs to be addressed by the Celtic manager and that is what are the club going to do about Joe Hart.

The Celtic goalkeeper had been superb helping the club remain the dominant club in Scotland but as January approaches, Hart will be free to talk to other clubs as his current deal expires at the end of the season.

What has Joe Hart said about extending his stay at Celtic

Not much to be honest. Until now. This weekend Hart was asked about his contract situation and whether or not he would like to stay on at Celtic beyond his current £15k p/w deal.

The 36-year-old was unusually coy with his answer and said that he has no intention of getting involved with any contract talks.

Hart said [Glasgow World], “Nothing that I’m aware of. I’ve said it before, I’m staying out of that business. That’s for the people above my head to talk about.

“I’m just so focused on trying to do my best for this team, enjoy every moment, enjoy every minute and try to give myself to help as best I can.”

I’ve said repeatedly on TBR Celtic that Hart still has a part to play at Celtic. I have also told how the club have been linked with signing Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher and Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin.

And whilst I believe that they are doing the right thing by looking at a long-term solution to replace Hart, the club must look to keep him on a little bit longer.

He has so much to offer Celtic behind the scenes as well as on the pitch and who else is better to learn from than a keeper who has won every domestic honour in both Scotland and England?
