‘I get the feeling’: Journalist believes ‘absolutely terrific’ player would stay at Celtic if a new deal was offered

Celtic have done a superb job in tying up the majority of their best players to new contracts this summer.

The Celtic board have invested a significant sum of money in offering eight players new deals but it seems that there is still work to be done.

Joe Hart is out of contract at the end of this season and with Celtic apparently looking for his replacement, journalist Mark Guidi, still believes that should the Hoops offer a new deal, Hart would be more than happy to stay.

Guidi said [The Go Radio Football Show], “Looking at all the circumstances, I don’t see anybody within Celtic’s budget that could go and replace Joe Hart.

“But they’ll have to find somebody. That said I’m sure if Celtic offered Joe Hart a contract he would like to stay.

“I get the feeling that he enjoys it here. He is playing Champions League football. He’s winning things, he’s part of something special considering what he had the previous three or four years when he hardly played first-team football.

“I don’t know what the contract situation is with him in terms of have they started talking about a new deal, but for me, Joe Hart’s been absolutely terrific.”

Guidi also believes that Liam Scales is next in line to get a new contract after the Irishman’s sparkling form this season.

However, Hart’s position must be looked at as a priority. I still believe that the experienced ‘keeper still has a part to play in Celtic’s immediate future.

His performances domestically, especially against Rangers, show that he still has a lot to offer and to fair to him, his Ibrox outing certainly silenced the critics who want him replaced completely.

Whether Hart continues as Celtic’s number one keeper is a matter that is up for debate. The clock, however, is ticking on his contract. One way or another, Celtic will need to start thinking about addressing the issue.
