‘He’s got quality’: Pat Bonner says Celtic have a brilliant impact substitute at the club

With the depth of squad Celtic have it’s crucial that they have players that, although won’t play every game, will make a difference when they get the opportunity to come on.

David Turnbull is a player that seems to have forged a reputation for being that type of player. As has experienced winger, James Forrest.

In fact, Forrest has been lauded by former Celtic hero, Pat Bonner, as a ‘brilliant’ impact sub after what he watched him do against Hearts yesterday.

Bonner said [BBC Sportsound], “He’s got quality, you know, he’s getting a little bit older now. He’s not going to be playing every single game for sure.

“He’ll come off the bench, but he’s an impact player and he’s got that little bit of skill as we’ve seen in this game and getting himself into really good positions.

“And he knows how Brendan wants to play. He can play wide drift and into little holes, get on the ball and he’s got the skill and ability.

“So he’s a quality player as long as he stays away from injury.”

I’ve already spoken today about how important Forrest is for Celtic. He comes in for some unfair criticism by some Celtic supporters but what he offers the club cannot be understated.

And against Hearts, he showed exactly why he is so important to the club in the 4-1 win. His experience in this clash was vital.

Granted by the time he came on Celtic were 3-1 up, but his inclusion came straight after Lawrence Shankland pulled one back for Hearts and Forrest helped calm the play down by using his experience and football intelligence.

Forrest is contracted to the club till 2025. I wouldn’t be surprised that when that contract expires he is offered a backroom role at Celtic such is his importance to the club.
