Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho has already scored the Premier League goal of the season, according to Alan Shearer.
The England icon named the Red Devils talent in his latest Premier League Team of the Week and lauded him for his incredible goal at the weekend.
Garnacho has been the talk of the town after he opened the scoring for Man United on the way to a routine 3-0 win at Everton last Sunday.
In the third minute of the match, Diogo Dalot sent a deep cross from the right flank, which Garnacho smashed into the net with a marvellous overhead kick.
Erik ten Hag went on to declare it Goal of the Season already. He told reporters, via BBC Sport: “The finish was incredible, it was world class. We are early in the season but already it’s the goal of the season.”
Shearer has echoed Ten Hag’s sentiments, writing on the Premier League website on Tuesday: “When his team needed him the most, he scored the goal of the season.”
The Newcastle and England icon also named Kobbie Mainoo in his XI, while Ten Hag was named Manager of the Week for steering Man United to such a comprehensive victory on Merseyside.
MORE MANCHESTER UNITED STORIES
It’s certainly bold from Shearer (and Ten Hag) to declare the GOTS competition done and dusted, but Garnacho’s goal was a thing of beauty and will certainly be up there.
Aside from the sheer quality of the goal, it also set Man United on course for an emphatic victory against the Toffees that put them sixth in the Premier League table.
With the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham all dropping points last weekend, the Red Devils will fancy their chances of breaking into the top four by Christmas.
Now, attention turns to the Champions League. Man United face Galatasaray in Istanbul needing a win to stand any chance of getting back up the Group A table and into the top two.
