‘Deeply uncomfortable…’ BBC pundit thinks Ange Postecoglou is taking a risk with two Tottenham players

Nedum Onuoha has said Ange Postecoglou is taking quite a risk in currently starting two players for Tottenham.

The north London side made it three losses in a row on Sunday with a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa, with Tottenham having numerous goals chalked off for offside in what was a frustrating match.

Injuries have certainly played their part, though, in this recent streak of defeats, and for Onuoha via Football Daily, Ben Davies and Emerson Royal starting at centre-back has not helped Tottenham’s fortunes at all.

With Micky van de Ven out through injury and Cristian Romero suspended, the true depth of Tottenham’s defensive options has been wildly exposed, and Onuoha thinks Postecoglou has taken a risky decision.

The BBC pundit said: “I’ve seen the upside of Spurs, I’ve seen some of the attacking play but then I know some people are deeply uncomfortable with seeing Davies and Emerson Royal as centre-backs.

“Then you picture it up against Haaland and Alvarez and you start thinking, wow, is this really going to work out?”

Ange Postecoglou knows Tottenham need another few transfer windows

When Davies and Emerson are starting at centre-back for Tottenham, you know that some major upheaval still needs to be made at Spurs if they’re to become a serious force.

However, whilst it’s easy to point fingers at Postecoglou, the Australian manager is doing as best as he can with the tools at his disposal.

Indeed, Tottenham clearly need a few transfer windows to overhaul the squad they currently have, with plenty of work needing to be done on almost every area of the pitch.

With Postecoglou hitting it out of the park with his first few signings, it could only take 18 months for the Tottenham manager to get the squad he wants to compete for silverware, and Spurs have to give him time.
