‘That’s why’…Pundit says three Tottenham players proved why Ange doesn’t trust them v Wolves

Tottenham lost their second game in a week yesterday as a dramatic late comeback from Wolves handed defeat to Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Despite leading through a very early goal from Brennan Johnson, Spurs eventually wilted as their defensive frailties and injury issues caught up with them.

Of course, Tottenham’s defence was doing its best in the wake of having Cristian Romero suspended and Micky van de Ven ruled out through injury. But in the end, there a sense of Deja-vu for Tottenham fans.

The late goals could have been prevented really and speaking for ESPN FC, former Scotland midfielder Craig Burley criticised Eric Dier, Emerson Royal, and Ben Davies for making the same mistakes over a long period of time.

“It goes back to the point. It’s the same players, who have been making the same mistakes for several managers. That’s why Ange has come in and said ‘no thank you’ That’s why you’re not in the starting line up but it’s needs must. But Dier, Davies and Emerson Royal have been making mistakes now for 24 months plus,” Burley said.

Tottenham need January signings

There was an argument that Spurs needed a few new faces in January anyway but with the injuries they’ve now got, the board simply has to react.

Signing a defender will now be crucial for Tottenham and it’s imperative that they get someone who can move with a bit of pace, especially if Ange wants to keep playing his way.

Ashley Phillips is another option for Spurs to go to but yesterday did show why the likes of Eric Dier are not being selected often.

The suspension to Romero will blow over but the injury to Van de Ven is a big problem. As is the injury to Maddison in midfield.

Tottenham will now be hoping they can get the players in during the winter and it’s crucial they do.
