‘Outstanding’ Tottenham defender scores acrobatic goal in training

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has been putting his players through their paces as they look to get back to winning ways in the Premier League.

Emerson Royal, one Tottenham player who looks likely to feature, warmed up for the match with a neat acrobatic goal in training.

The Spurs media team shared a YouTube video of the players training at Hotspur Way and, at 5 minutes 9 seconds in, Emerson has a go at goal.

Although his effort was saved, the ball bounced up for the 24-year-old to try his luck again, and he duly netted with a scissor kick.

While it’s good to see Emerson score such a nice effort, fans will be hoping he’ll be able to make clearances of that sort on Saturday, as he’ll be needed at the back.

Emerson likely to start for Spurs on Saturday

Tottenham head to Wolves in the day’s early kickoff, and Spurs will be eager to bounce back after their chaotic Monday night defeat to Chelsea.

The nine men of Tottenham bravely battled in pursuit of a least a point, only for the visitors to strike twice deep into injury time.

Not only that, but Spurs now also have to contend with two suspensions and a mounting injury list too.

Things are particularly worrisome at the back, with three of the first-choice back four all unavailable.

Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie are suspended, while Micky van de Ven suffered a hamstring issue which could keep him out long-term.

Pedro Porro remains available, so he’s likely to remain at right-back, meaning Emerson is likely to be deployed either at left-back or at centre-back.

The ‘outstanding‘ £77,000-a-week ace (Salarysport), a right-back by trade, has played at centre-back and left-back before.

As per Transfermarkt, Emerson’s sole left-back appearance came at Real Betis in 2019-20, while he covered at centre-back for Spurs season, against Aston Villa in May.
